wrong, the police come too. My dumbass dad accidentally set if off in our house the other night. Ours has the motion censors and everything, but we rent and the original owners installed it. We never have it on (and never as for the code because of it) because of our animals would always set it off anyways.

So anyways, my dumbass dad accidentally hits the alarm while trying to find his glasses the other night and then about 30 minutes later the police come.

Were they late? Maybe a tad.. but they still came

i accidentally hit the emergency code on the alarm at my parents house one time. i hit the alarm, thought i'd turned it off (emergency code is silent) and immediately went upstairs to bed.

police were there in <5 minutes.

"Motion censors"? So they stand around and count things that move?

90% of alarm system deterrence is the little sign in the front yard. Casual thieves will see the sign and go to the next house down the street with no sign, and determined thieves will know how to defeat the alarm and will break in anyway.

If all you want to do is deter theft the best thing to do is buy some ADT signs on eBay or have someone with an alarm system give you some yard signs and window stickers. Only get an alarm if you are worried about protection while you are home, but for that, you could have a gun.

If the house you are buying has an alarm system, call and get some free signs sent, and then cancel the service. Signs with the pad on the wall will do a good job fooling anyone who peaks in.

my buddy has a mastiff. he's a little bit of a runt, only 130lbs so far.

i'd say the man has no need for an alarm.

Well.. they also call the police, or the fire department.

Without paying for the service, the alarm will make a bunch of noise and that's it. You will still get killed or robbed and no one will show up to stop it.

I have ADT.. and I don't pay for the service any more.. but I have guns.. lots of guns.
