Home Subwoofer Recommendations?
Thanks for the recommendations guys. I'll admit, I was hoping for ideas on the Klipsch, JBL or Infinity, but I guess the responses show that I may need to do more research into the purchase.
I may even consider the diy method recommended by SC_Highlander. There's just too many choices! (which is probably a good thing)
Two quick questions for you
My receiver has a single output for the subwoofer, but I notice that most of the higher end subs have inputs for left & right speakers and one labeled LFE. Is the LFE input the one I need or will I need to do some creative wiring?
Also....the current sub (el mondo cheapo) will crackle/pop occasionally when watching movies, the asteroid scene in Attack of the Clones is a good example. Could this be because I'm pushing it too hard (which a new sub will improve) or is it that the sub doesn't 'match' the range of my new Klipsch satellites?
Thanks again

What receiver is it?
Oh and you probably were bottoming out the old sub. I'd also recommend picking up an SPL meter from radioshack to help you set levels and find the best placement for whatever sub you choose.
The receiver is the Yamaha 5240. I'm a little confused on setting up the crossover, but I've got the manual out now & it's quite a novel
Cheetah: I'll chime in a bit late here, since everybody is trying to sell you a $1500 sub.
Of the 3 you listed, the Klipsch would be my first choice. Decent power, good low frequency extension, and the quintets should be well matched to the sub. The small JBL subs have underwhelmed me in the past, and Infinity's lower end subs don't have very good LFE. One thing to watch for, Infinity is notorious for overrating their subs' ability - they look great on paper but are merely average in reality.
Another good alternative to the KSW-10 would be a Paradigm PDR10. A small step above the other 3, for roughly equal or less cash (although you will have to get it at a dealer).
That's my 2 cents
Good luck
