Yeah, just do a little research viewing at a store before you buy if you like em. Mitsu generally makes 3 models in each size usually differentiated by model numbers that end in something like "638" "738" and "838". The cheapest are the 638 series, they generally have a good picture but lack some of the circuitry of the 738's. The picture difference may or may not be worth the extra money depending on your taste. I noticed a difference, mostly the picture quality around the outside edges of the screen. Some people say the cheaper ones can have motion blur on fast moving sports and the like, but I never noticed any on the cheaper sets. They looked pretty good.

The 838's are even more money but the difference is instead of a couple stereo speakers built into the cabinet, it has the "surround bar" setup which is where the extra money comes in. If you have a surround setup, you don't need this one because the picture is not any better.

They all have 3D capabilty and just require some $100 a pair glasses and a ps3 or 3D bluray player, but if you are a tech geek, its a cool feature to have.

I am 41 years old but sit in a racing chair setup with logitech wheel and giant 3D glasses on playing a 3D video game so I am a self admitted dork. My wife likes the fact that it is all in the basement so the neighbors don't see me.

Many of the projectors also are 3D capable if you still want to go that route.

Thanks for the TV suggestions guys... Even being in the technology field as I am, I wasnt aware that TVs that large and of that quality could be had for $1100... The 73'' has my attention and Ill be checking that website every day!

Im not much into the whole 3D thing.. I just havent gotten bit by the bug I guess, It doesnt appeal to me but it will be nice to know the TV is capable if I want.

This thing is going to look ridiculous but awesome in my living room

It depends on what you really want for this system. I design automation and home theater systems(full construction to include acoustic design) for a living. If you are really interested pm me and i'll guide you through the technologies and help you get what best fits you pocket v. what you want.

If you want a NICE setup, you are going to need 10K. Samsung A800B projector and a nice SMX screen, and that's all BEFORE the audio and amps.

If you want a cheap way out, just get the biggest HDTV you can afford and call it a day. Crappy projectors are horrible. They look decent in pitch darkness, but turn on a lamp, and nothing. Unless you have a dedicated room (in which case you should do it the right way the first time) don't bother IMHO.

this is what you need! you can have HD on a 64'x36' screen. I've seen this thing in action its awesome. Only problems are the weight at 160lbs, and the price at $135k. If its not bright enough you can get two and stack them.

You guys are crazy..

OP, buy a $1000 projector with plenty of lumen, a $300 screen with higher gain if you need it, use whatever speakers you have, throw some drapes on your windows, and enjoy your huge ****** 120" picture because it's going to be awesome.

I'd rather have a 70" plasma than a crappy projector, but that's my personal preference. You are not getting a $1000 projector with "plenty of lumen".

I guess different strokes for different folks. I have a few friends that have "budget" setups, and I didn't like it NEARLY as much as my TV setup.

IMHO, some things are just expensive to be good, and home theaters are one of them.

Just my .02.
