Pathetic, really. Consider the R&D costs of the two. There's no question who has more disposable cash.

Deon Sanders was calling for each NFL player to donate $1000.

Most of them spend more than that on booze when they go out to party.

it's really not for any of us to judge. it's realy up to the individual or companies how generous they want to be in terms of contribution (if any). just because an individual or company is well off doesn't mean that they should be obligated to donate more. if that was the case, then the government might as well just set up a special tax for this crisis to collect more from the rich and less (or none) from the poor instead of relying on people to volunteer to give money.

also, back to the honda vs. nfl donations, although the nfl is donating a merely $1M vs. honda's $5M, the nfl is doing other things to help encourage others to donate, whereas honda is merely writing a $5M check and calling it the day. so in the end, the accumulated contribution as a result of the nfl's efforts may match or even exceed the amount donated by honda.

More than money will be needed. Don't forget the people who are putting in time and opening their homes to those who have been displaced by the hurricane.

" American Honda has been in close communication and coordination with the American Red Cross (ARC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide support for relief efforts in the affected region. The company has registered with the Department of Homeland Security's National Emergency Resource Registry and will provide generators, water pumps, all terrain vehicles, personal watercraft, outboard motors, and vehicles for relief efforts.

The American Red Cross -- Disaster Relief Fund provides food, clothing, shelter, and other basic necessities to those forced from their homes by the storm.

Honda companies and offices nationwide also are implementing local programs and initiatives to support relief efforts. "

I understand they aren't really that comparable, I just thought it was kind of sad considering the amount of press and hype behind each contribution (tons from the NFL and none from Honda). It's cool to see the NFL running some programs and encouraging a lot of giving, I just thought they did a poor job of putting money where their mouth was when you add up the dollar signs.

Hah. Rodney Harrison gets fined $50,000 for his big tackles!
