Default Honda Model X or a 4x4 Pickup?

With the new Pilot Honda SUV on its way, along with the CRV, does Honda need a Model X or would they do better in this country to just give us a pickup that has some good old 4x4 capabilities?

Most people would find the CRV adeqate as they rarely if ever go 'off road'.

Boy am I glad you cleared this up -- I was just wondering whether the Model X was the same as the upcoming Pilot. I'm glad it's not! The Pilot is based on MDX with seating for 8, and according to my father who's seen it in person, it looks great. The Model X is just weird, like a pig with big nostrils. Then again, I haven't read much on it, maybe I'm not appreciating it.

The CRV is a fine vehicle but it is NOT a pickup!
Count me as one who does not want some stinking SUV, Mini SUV, SAV, MPV or any other variation on the theme. I grew up on a farm. I like trucks, real trucks with an open bed in the back, not an enclosed back seat.
I'm okay now, I took a deep breath.
And yes, I do go off road, I have a 4x4 truck not an AWD vehicle, and I use my low/low granny gear!

I have the '02 CR-V EX Manual and prior to that the 97 (Auto) and 99 (Manual) CR-V EX's. Also have the MDX. They are both more than adequate for the street and well thought out interiors and features in both cases. The MDX actually handles and accelerates well for what it is - not quite an X5 but for the price difference and extra room, it's the way to go in that space.

I've had the MDX on the brain now for a while. I'm really looking forward to the Pilot, to see what it offers. Depending on price, I may go either way.
As for Pickups, Maybe it's just me, but I can't see it. Don't know why, but when I think Import pickup, I think Toyota..
Rememer in Back to the Future? When I saw that black truck in the garage, I stood up, pointed, and said "That's what I want"

My tastes since my last 4Runner have moved to cars, but you just can't do things with a car, that you can do with a truck...No matter how hard you try..

I just stick to begging my friends for thier trucks

I'd go for the pickup since Honda needs to counter Nissan's Frontier...

I agree, my next pickup will most likely be a Toyota Tacoma i.e. a missed sales opportunity for Honda! I've had several Nissans and have had great luck with them but the new Frontier is so ugly I can't stand it. In fact I even think Rubbermaid was part of the design team.
I just think Honda ought to be in the pickup market if they are going to be in the SUV market. I use my pickup in ways you can not use an SUV- loads of sand, gravel, firewood, 4x8 sheets of lumber. I like the freedom of tossing things in the back without worrying about ripping the upholstery or getting it dirty.
