Default Hot water heaters...

Luder94 and I just got back from lunch and we were talking about the OT forum (my home away from home) and that we think, with the exception of hot water heaters, every topic known to man has been brought and/or discussed here.

Are we right? If not, what topics are we missing?!

Why is it called a hot water heater?
It should be a cold water heater.

Don't get me started on water heaters. I just had one put in last night . The quoted price for the heater alone (50 gallon) is about $400, the "installation" is charged by "time and material". Well, by the time they are done, the bill is more than $1000, including the permit that is required by my city.

They have changed the building code quite a bit since the last time I installed a water heater. Now the pressure vent pipe must physically EXIT the garage, which required drilling a hole in the wall and running a LONG pipe from the water heater to the hole. In all my years of owning a water heater, I've never seen the pressure vent valve go off, so I don't understand why it can't just go down to the floor like it always did. And living in California, they now require that the water tank be SECURELY strapped to the wall, which required the construction of a whole structure to hold it in place, etc..

Actaully I have a hot water on demand, (a miniature under-sink heater), and it's the most valuable appliance in the house. Instant tea!

I have a hot water recirculator that's really cool. Push the button, and voila! in a few seconds you have hot water all through the house (especially nice for the bathroom farthest from the aforementioned hot - or cold - water heater).

We could also talk about garbage disposers. Could be a whole new thread.
