How did you propose?
Hello,
Time is getting near, and I need some ideas.
1. How did you propose? When? Where? Which day?
2. How much did you spend on the ring?
3. How long were you a couple before asking Him/Her?
4. How many times have you been married? If more than once, why?
Here is a little history of my G/F and I. We have been exclusively together for 3 1/2 years. We love, fight, fight, but at the end we love. She is very intelligent and delightful to be with when the latina heat is controlled.
Lets see.....4.0 gpa at Texas A&M. Has minor in business, spanish, and will major in economics. She will graduate this May also. Like every relationship, at the beginning there is the passion. Than it wears off and you do nothing but fight. During the fighting process, we learn about each other and what make us tick. Than your finally at the stage of real love. Not passion. We are at that stage for some time now.
I strongly believe she is the one I want to be with. Like most guys, I am not that romantic so I need some ideas.
Camera phone so pic is bad. For the leghumpers non the less.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm not married, but spend what you can on the ring. Some statistics I heard some time ago showed that the average engagement ring bought in the US was the equivalent of a three month salary.
Now, I don't know how they got this number, because in some situations you DO earn a lot of money (say $7000 a month), but you won't be able to afford a ring which costs over $20k...
Just don't put yourself to debt, you'll need money for the ceremony (unless your parents pay for it).
A 5 star hotel in the city of Montreux (the Las Vegas of Switzerland) has a very nice "romantic weekend" bundle. I've been thinking of taking my GF out there next year and proposing then and there. You can find lots of 'proposal' idea if you just type the question in google

1. How did you propose? When? Where? Which day?
I used the old cliche and actually got down on one knee. Sometime in Nov. of 78, in a little "mom and pop" motel on the way from SC to Boston and I don't remember what day it was.
2. How much did you spend on the ring?
I didn't buy one.
3. How long were you a couple before asking Him/Her?
We had lived together about a year, and had gone out together for about a year before that.
4. How many times have you been married? If more than once, why?
My only marriage, her second. I took her away from her ex-husband.
We got married in a park in Charleston SC, she invited the people from her office (Dept of Psychiatry at Medical U. of SC), my side came from the ranks of commercial fishermen, shady pilots, and an international hitchhiker. Her boss married us (He was a Notary Public as well as the head shrink). My dog Flower was in attendance also.

I had lived with my "girlfriend" for about 1.5 years before I proposed.
I snuck out in the morning and gave my ring & dozen roses to a police officer and had them pull over Julie for doing a U-turn out of our apartment. It was pretty neat, but I didn't have a video camera. I hid behind a tree like a peeping tom.
"ma'am...you did a u-turn.....bla bla bla....you can either take a ticket or this ring and flowers from scot" (as i unhid from the tree).
That was back in 1992....about 3 years before some guy won $10k on America's funniest video's for something very similar. booooo.
At the time I think i spent $500 for her ring....ahah... she has since upgraded to a much nicer ring!

Just a little piece of advice....Definitely live with her for a while before you pop the question, then come back in 6 months and let me know if you think your still out of your fighting stage....
As far as proposing, make sure it is a surprise
If your truly in love worry about the ring when you have Money to spend on a nice one
I was with my wife for 4 years before marriage, but 2 were living together (most important in my book)
This is my first marriage as well as hers

Nice proposal and ideas!
We use to live together basicly for 6 months when I was in college. Her apt. was across from mine in the same complex. I ended up never living at my place. I have since moved back to Houston from College Station to open my business. That was about 1/2 a year ago. I see her every weekend. Houston to College Station is only about an hour away. I enjoy the drive

December 5th, 2001. I had given her gifts, each a frog of some sort (she loves frogs), with a romantic note once a week for three weeks. The fourth week was when I proposed...and I blind-folded her and took her down to a creek not far away that had nice waterfall (on an absolutely perfect day too!). I put a large stuffed frog down by the creek with a note and told her to go down to the frog. While she walked down, I started a song on my car stereo and I put the ring in my pocket. I walked down to the creek and got down on one knee...the rest is history.

2. How much did you spend on the ring?
$2300...and it was worth every damn penny. It was the second one I looked at, and I had no one elses input....I knew it was perfect. She loved it, and she is still getting compliments to this day and its been four years since I gave it to her.
3. How long were you a couple before asking Him/Her?
1 year. But I knew three months into it she was the one.
4. How many times have you been married? If more than once, why?
Once. And it will stay that way. I firmly believe my wife and I can get through anything, and even if we couldn't there is no way I could go through the process of planning a wedding again. I have enough stress at work without the same stress when I am not at work.
