Default How do I ask for credit back?

Well, a few months back I set a recurring online payment for my Best Buy card and basically ignored the bills. Problem was the payments were about $10/mo less than they should have been and I got on the hook for $50. Since I racked up a delinquency for about 60 days, they cut off my limit.

I have paid this balance off and am revolving-debt free except for a couple hundred on one of my other cards. My credit is well into the 700s, so it is kinda funny and kinda sad that I don't have credit with Best Buy now.

They had a promotion where there was no interest until 2010 on TVs. I thought about taking advantage, but was too embarrased to make the call to beg for a credit line

How should I try to explain this to them when I ask for my credit restored? They're just wasting paper mailing me bills for $0 when I can't spend anything. Income is a non-issue as that is more than enough.

The guy on the toll-free phone line will just follow the books. He's not in any position to make an exception. State your case and ask them what you can do about it. If the answer is unsatisfactory to you, ask for his/her supervisor. If that doesn't work out go to Circuit City.

Agreed, all big box retailers suck. Buy online from authorized e-tailers. Store credit cards=lower credit score, just cancel it if it's paid off.

Personally, I like Costco for big electronics.

Lifetime return policy works WONDERS for items like tvs, etc. Lifetime, as in, if it breaks 2 years down the road, you return it for all your money back.

Best Buy and Circuit City would have you pay ~$200 to a "replacement plan" that does the same thing.

I like CC and hate BB because like anytime you have a problem with you product, seems the managers come over and find a way to blame the defect on the customer and this generally pisses people off, a friend of mine told me that the managers get larger bonus checks if returns are kept low.

Don't cancel the card right after it's paid off. Cancelling it right after you pay it off actually HURTS your credit score. I forgot exactly how but it does (maybe someone here can explain). Hold onto it for a little while, maybe a year or so then cancel it, just don't charge anything on it in that period.

I know that when I went to buy our house, they wanted four (4) lines of credit that had a history of at least 12 months. So, it helps if you keep them on for at least twelve months.

Of course, you don't want too many on there either, since that means you have the potential to increase your debt-to-income ratio significantly (if you aren't using them much at the moment).
