How do I get an unflavored version of IE6?
I've downloaded IE6 from three different websites, and each one ends up giving me the same version: "Microsoft Internet Explorer brought to you by Yahoo!". That really pi$$es me off, because every time I'm logged on I'm continually bombarded with pop-up ads and windows - all courtesy of stinking Yahoo!
Does anyone know where I can download a plain, unflavored version of IE6, without having to go out and buy a Service Pak? I just want to get back to a nice, user-friendly version, like we used to have before Yahoo! jumped on the gravy train.

I got mine from Microsoft. No flavors here, it seems. If you installed it with the yahoo features, you may have to completely uninstall IE6 and reinstall. When I say uninstall, I mean remove it from registry and any files that may be related the yahoo version. Might want to email yahoo and see if they'll give you instructions on that. Sometimes they write stuff into places that you won't look, so you can't get rid of their crap. But I might be wrong.
be on the pc you want to upgrade, and then browse to http://www.windowsupdate.com
if you want a copy that will work on all platforms and any computer without having to individually download the upgrade every time, you have to get the cd.

Yes, I downloaded my IE6 from Microsoft.com and I get TONS of pop up ads. It is annoying as hell. I have a cable modem, so I am never offline. When I wake up in the morning, I have to close anywhere from 15-20 popup ads. I tried to uninstall IE6, but I don't know how. I also looked into the add/remove programs thing, but didn't see anything there. This is really annoying and I am tempted to send someone a not-so-nice email, but I don't know who is responsible for the pop up ads.
Thanks everyone for your advice.
I'm not sure I'm brave enough to screw with the registry setting, so I don't think I'll go that route.
I did try the "windowsupdate" site (MSN upgrade), but no luck. I still get the Yahoo! flavor.
teqneek: I know how mad you feel. That goes for me too. I've just sent Yahoo! a nasty email, threatening some form of legal action unless I receive instructions on how to disable the Yahoo! configuration, or to tell me how to download a regular MSN IE6 version. I told them the current form of IE6 is an invasion of my privacy. I did not want their stinking ads and pop-ups, yet they are being forced on me, without my approval.

O.K. Over the weekend, I got rid of IE6 provided by Yahoo!, and I am so happy.
I'm still not sure exactly how I did it, but these are the steps I took....
Loaded Netscape.
Copied my IE favorites address (in C:WINDOWSFAVORITES) to a backup directory; but also deleted three Yahoo! links and a directory which were in the favorites.
initialized Netscape, and then closed it down after playing around with the features.
Selected AddRemove programs from the Control Panel (intending to delete IE6); however, the dialog wouldn't let me delete the whole thing - it would only allow me to go back to a previous version. I chose that option. IE reloaded and reverted to IE5.5. Amazingly, no ...."provided by Yahoo!"
Since then, my PC seems to be loading twice as quickly, and no pop-ups adds. I'm still not sure what I did to change that, but I'm thrilled. I just hope this might be of something others can try if they're as frustrated with Yahoo! as I was.
Maybe someone can suggest a specific reason why these steps I took were successful in getting rid of Yahoo for me. (BTW. My previous version of IE5.5 did have Yahoo! controlling it, so I haven't reverted to a [previously] unflavored version.)
