After reading some of postings on some of the threads here, my daughter wasn't sure if some of the "opinions" expressed were genuine, or if people were simply writing stupid stuff to provoke, prod, vex, or inspire the other correspondents.

Consider this thread your opportunity to test her powers of discernment.

I invite you to post your opinion - genuine or not - on a subject you consider controversial. Possible subjects from my own threads would be whether animals should be considered athletes, whether a white South African living in the US is "African-American", whether Michael Schumacher is the best F1 driver ever, and so on; you're welcome to select other subjects of your own devising.

I ask that you avoid subjects that will get this thread closed - sex and religion being two examples - and that you keep it clean.

The objective is to see whether she - or the members here - can tell the difference between posts containing real opinions and those designed to confound and mislead.

So, are we a coterie of shrewd tale-spinners?

Or a passel of idiots?
