A lot of those incidents were people running red lights.

But honestly, I'm not sure that I would have avoided most of those.
+1... those weren't people trying to beat an "orange" light. Those were people flat-out blowing through red lights that had been red for quite a while. Unless you have visibility of the cross traffic from quite a distance back from the intersection, many of those wouldn't have been avoidable by the person with "right-of-way."

wow crazy video. some of those were not even like, barely missed the light (which by the way is retarded...are you really in that much of a hurry???)...just completely blatant. that one at 3:13 is pretty crazy, where the guy made it through a bunch of cars going at normal speed.

I hate red light runners! Even more so after this weekend, Freaking Taxi driver ran the red on my little sister and tried to blame it on her!

That video makes me angry. I've been nearly killed by blatant red light runners twice, in completely unavoidable fashion. Some people just aren't fit to drive, I don't see why we can't realize that in this country until after they've killed someone. (and sometimes not even after that.)

If I'm the first car at a light, when it turns green I'm always pausing and looking both ways, even though I have the right of way. Red light runners suck.

I always pause/wait now, and have been before the red light cameras really came into affect up here. I use to time it (like a tree light at the drag strip) by watching the other lanes. Until I actually saw someone run the red light and somehow (in this order) dodge 3 cars, clip the back of the next one, miss a guy on a motorcycle by about a foot, jump the curb into a gas station and miss a gas pump by about a foot, continue through the station lot and smash into a tree. All without once seeing the brake lights come on.

I saw put red light cameras at every light.

I have never, literally never, run a red light. It's one of those things that is enforceable by automated equipment without dispute (when face pictures are also included).

The only time I have problems with the red light cameras in when they're multi-tasked to act as speed cameras, as many of them have been in my city, Calgary, Alberta (Canada).

I'd like to know if anyone has a legitimate reason to not use them.

Red light running is an epidemic in my area. I have seen people not paying attention and blatantly run red lights. I always give a slight pause and check the cross directions, especially at night.

The only reason that I would be against them is because I read an article that indicated that lights with red-light cameras had shorter yellow-lights than other intersections... i.e., the city had intentionally shortened the yellow-light in order to force more red-light runners & generate revenue from the camera and/or to make the camera look like it was more effective than it really is.

If all yellow-lights are timed based on a specific algorithm (like 2 seconds for each 10mph of the speed limit), then I'm OK with it. But, if there's something hinky going on just to generate revenue, then I'm against it, and I think that also makes the intersection more dangerous.
