Default How much are college grads making

My youngest bro is graduating from Cal in Spring. His major is Econ. He already has an offer of 52k, is that good? His other friends got offered 48k.

That is so much more than what I was making at his age. I knew I should have finished college. I'd imagine in 4 years he'd be making more than me. What the hell is dispute consulting anyhow?

I know someone who's making about 60k as a senior in college.
His brother got an offer for 150K out of grad school.

hmm, dispute consulting? consulting disputes maybe? heh.

ECON majors that get hired by consulting or investment banking firms get 100k+
If you're coming out of a top ten business school, yes.

If you're coming out of undergrad, even if it is Wharton, hell no. Goldman Sachs pays barely over $60K for its NEW YORK office which is pretty crappy when you take into account the cost of living in Manhattan.

$45K-50K is typical for the large business consulting firms (Accenture, DC, PwC, Andersen, E&Y).

But it's really dependent on economic conditions. This year's business undergrad class isn't going to see anything from the top consulting firms.

Depends on where he has to work at. You have to consider cost of living in an area and benefits + bonus to truely evaluate an offer.

For the non-believers,

Just because you couldn't get a high paying job doesn't mean no one can. Last year, Accenture offered all the people they hired at my school 62K+8K signing bonus. This was of course before they recinded all their offers though because they over hired.

Insano, which firm do you work for and what was your major? I assume you went to Rice.

My bros holding out to see if he can get a better offer form Ernest and Young. I'm a little jealous. At 21 I think I was still working retail making not even half that.

I am actually an engineer so no high paying salary for me either. Some of my classmates on the other hand decided to take jobs with consulting companies and were nicely paid. The ECON majors get the best of both worlds. Didn't have to take any hard classes and get nice paychecks.
