Get a DVD recorder. I have one and I love it. There is one catch though, it seems that Comcast is blocking some channels from being able to record to DVD.
I tried to record F1 races on Speed and an HBO original movie and it was stopped after only a few seconds so I had to go old school with the VHS recorder. Why Comcast pulls that BS I don't know, it pisses me off. But for other programs, it looks so good its like watching it air live.
Tivo and the like would be great if you didn't have to pay a subscription fee. You buy the box and that should be enough. After all, you don't buy a radio and have to pay a subscription fee to listen to your local stations (Serius/XM is a different story). Maybe that's a bad example. You don't buy a movie DVD then pay a subscription fee every time you want to watch it.
Tivo should set it up so you buy the device once and that's it. That's why I haven't bought one. You can be nickel-and-dimed to death with all these subscription fees.

Likewise, you buy a Tivo and pay fees when you want to record a show. Can you still watch what's already on your Tivo box even without the subscription?
