Default How to use Java to control Word (e.g. starting up a new doc, saving w/given params) ?

I have to make a program in Java that opens up a word processor such as Microsoft Word and save the document as something I prename. There are some other things I'd like to integrate into Word using Java. I've heard people do these kind of things using VB but can it be done in Java? Is VB/VB.net the only way? Thanks.
