Hi everybody,
Isn't this site great! Well I have read much on this board about RICE and I wonder how ya all would define it. Is is direcly related to anything like fuzzy dice or mods, perhaps driving style? What exactly is RICE? Comments...

Rice is obviously out of place mods, i.e. huge spoiler on a VW bug or 4" chrome exahust tips on a stock exhaust system.

i've always followed the definition that "riced out" cars have mods that are done sheerly for attention (both positive and negative) ie. loud exhaust, coffee can tips, lights all over the place, that sort of thing. Usually seen on Asian and now some Euro cars, driven by posers. Just my 2cents.

"Rice" might include mods that don't work or can't work, but are claimed to do so. The main justification is the cafe racer, bragging right sort of thing. But this is too shallow to claim so the folks claim performance or other benefits. Very impressive to the uninformed. Often there are even performance decreases or safety issues. I have seen cars with a row of gauges on the A-pillar...boost, intercooler temp etc. On a car with no turbo. I guess that the guy wanted the bad rep of a boosted car without spending the money. Or cars with $10,000 of mods to make them almost as fast as another directly competive car that originally cost $2-3000 more. Not very sensible. Racing harnesses with the shoulder mounts attached to the floor right behind the seat. Great! Now you can compress your vertebra in an accident. Cages of material, diameter and construction that no sanctioning body would approve. Even "loose" cages in cars. Fire extinguishers. or fake fire extinguishers screwed down onto plastic trim. Fuel lines of unsafe material for the working pressure. Play Station controllers attached to the front of airbag steering wheels. That'll hurt! Most of the mods are claimed to be performance oriented but often are not. You are really a ricer if someone tries to help you out by explaining a safety or performance issue and then the ricer angrily "disses" you. There is quite a bit of that attitude from some on this board at times. I like the enthusiasm of some ricers but dislike the behavior of those who are close minded and arrogant. Another aspect of rice is the price. While visiting NJ I stopped by a few rice shops. Guys were putting Acura "Type R" stickers on Nissans. Huh? Everything was amazingly over priced. Often priced OVER list. Eagerly being purchased. Maybe that is another aspect of the ignorance that can be irritating about ricers.

There is a moron in our town with a red S2000 that has yellow Honda emblems and a big Type R logo on the back. That, my friend, is rice.
