Default I am mobile!

Anybody else use a wireless modem to access the Internet? I just activated my AirCard today. Kinda slow, but at least I'm connected. Wish I lived in a city that had the CDMA2000 1X network.

Been playing with that for the past couple days. Let's just say that I'm less than impressed. It wasn't much better than Sprint's 14 kbps card.

I was thinking about it here at UCR, but it's not worth it. Also, it only works in certain areas. Provider is UCR...or whatever provider UCR is using.

Yeah, I've been cheating on you

Our infrastructure guys had your team in and picked up the card. I threw it in a iPaq 3600 to see what it could do. The phone part was sort of cool.

yeah, when we were talking about getting into your company, i got word that we already have people working on it... so i guess they got in..

give it a few more months... right now, DC is testing the second wave, which will have speeds really really high.. i forgot what the speed is, but it is more than cable i think...

Technically speaking, 3G is suppossed to be 2 Mbps stationary and 144 kbps moving. The card we have is based on CDMA2000 1XRTT and delivers real life 40 - 60 kbps speed with potential busts up to 144 kbps so I don't really consider it to be a true 3G solution.

I think the DC test is based on 1XEV-DO and has a theoretical rate of up to 2.4 Mbps. Most cable modems are capable of up to 1.5 Mbps, so I'm eager to see if the 1XEV-DO delivers real-world speeds in that range. Fingers crossed....

I am using AT&T. If I wanted to go with Verizon, but they didn't service CDMA2000 in Los Angeles. San Fran seems to have it though. Oh wells.
