Smile I don't get it...

Bought 1000 shares of Kohl's today and expected to make some $$. Excellent earnings reports came out yet the stock dipped. Why?

Probably because it is over-valued anyway. Why pick Kohl's (P/E 27) over Target (P/E 20)? All the women I know are ga-ga for Target but so-so for Kohl's.

Because just earlier, JC Penny also reported finely, and its stock jumped. Its P/E is not much different than Kohl's.

Oh, Target competes directly with Walmart, not Kohl's. Kohl's competes with JC Penny, Macy's, etc.

long term investments > short term investments
less risk more risk
less return(well not always) more return

if i were you, instead of selling right away, id keep it for another couple of years. just because it dipped doesnt mean you wont make any money back.

I don't see Kohl's a competitor to Penney's and cetainly not Macy's. Kohl's looks to be about a step below Target and one step above K-Mart to me...at least that's the impression I get from the stores around here.

Sure they compete. What does Kohl's sell that my wife can't get at target? Nada. I know what you mean in terms of a narrower focus but Target > Kohl's. Just wondering why you'd pick a stock that some analysts pegged as over-priced even before the last three months of run-up.

Retail stocks.

And people think pink sheet pennies are volatile.
