I forgot how to do this: which file do I edit for specific DNS setting?

My ISP is sucking a lot of $hit right now, they're supposedly being hacked on a daily basis, so I have to use IP address to get here. Does anyone remember the file you can edit to specify an IP for a specific URL in Windows?

Thanks.

"hosts" file. there should be a hosts.sam (short for sample) that you are looking for.

I believe this is what you are looking for.

let me know if you need any help with it.

thanks.

also, fyi, its dynamic, doesn't need any rebooting or restarting at all. should all just work on the fly.

edit the Hosts file
located (for nt4)
in winntsystem32driversetc

I think 95/98 has it in windows
but do a Find Files for hosts and it will bring it up. Don't edit the Lmhosts.sam file, this is only for Netbios names
