I have MRSA
So four weeks ago I crushed / broke my finger... I had to have a pin put in it to hold it together while it healed, not a big deal...
Until I got MRSA. This sucks!
I have a PICC line in my arm...I am going to be on IV drugs for the next six weeks!
Anybody else ever deal with this before?

MRSA?
An acronym for some sort of infection?

Sorry to hear of your plight. Hopefully it gets eradicated and your health is good. Be sure to keep your immune system at tip top shape to help you fight it.
I have to stop reading about this on the internet. I was diagnosed 10 days ago... but I am just now taking the time to read about it (I was in the hospital for 6 of those days). Anyway, there is a forum dedicated to it: http://www.forum.mrsaresources.com and it is scary reading some of these peoples stories.
If there are any Dr.'s here... I would love to here your opinions on MRSA... as I have received different stories of how serious it is. My infectious disease Doctors acted like it isn't that big of deal. My pediatrician (I have a 13 month old) was really concerned, and the people on this forum I am reading act like this is an epidemic.

Getting yourself worked up reading the horror stories about the outcomes of MRSA patients isn't going to help you in this situation. Best is to get lots of rest and stay healthy. Hope you get better bro
cause we're all rooting for you.

I work in a trauma/surgical ICU (I'm a RN). We see it all the time. You're walking around healthy and you're young. You'll be fine. If you were hooked up to a ventilator, in acute renal failure, in respiratory distress/ARDS, and flirting with going septic with MRSA in your blood, then you'd have plenty to worry about. There are far worse bugs out there. Get a vanc resistant bug, then you'll be on some rough antibiotics.
The PICC feels invasive as having a tube protruding from your arm is unnatural, however in the larger scheme, it's not that bad. Don't let that PICC stay in to long. They are good sources of infections themselves. They are nice since you don't have to get poked repeatedly for IV infusions, but I'm not a fan of them. Don't let that PICC stay in there six weeks.
