I need PDA advice for X-mas
In general, the PocketPC interface - esp. with the Office Light apps is very compelling. If you get those capable of a CompactFlash II card, you can store 1Gb of photos or WMA or MP3 files as well.
Just make sure that size is not a main factor for you. I have owned all of the above and always go back to the Palm os because the Pocket Pcs are just too big. Spec wise on paper they make look similar but in daily usage they make one heck of a difference. Another bad thing about pocket pcs is that one battery charge can only barely get you past one day of usage. On the other hand, they are multimedia powerhouse. Can watch movies
I ended up using the Sony ricosuave recommended above(palm os) because I realised I don't need the multimedia capabilities(of pocket pcs) except to impress people.
If I forget to charge the pocket pcs, I just keep worrying it about the whole day.
Really boils down to what you want the device for.

I do a lot of development with the PocketOS devices. If you want something that will be very expandable, with applications like having the device be a Cell phone, or VoIP etc then you need to go with a PocketOS device. The Palms just don't have the horsepower to pull it off.
I can say there are some incredible handheld apps coming out in the next 18 months that will gain on laptop functionality.
Right now I like the iPAQ 3800 series or the new Jornada. The iPAQ is flash upgradable (3800 series as 32meg flash and will take a full OS upgrade).
The battery life of the new devices is very impressive against last years vintage, I can go for 3 full days of useage on my 3800 series or jornada without putting them in a charger, thats even using it as a IP phone.
Keep an eye on www.techbargains.com as well, seems like a lot of cheap deals on them right now.

Like usual, once I decide on a certain product that product mysteriously disappears from the face of the earth.
So instead of the ipaq 3650, I'm going with the 3760. After going to all the usual places, I bought it from Circuit City. At least it had a $50.00 rebate
Looking forward to X-mas...

Low-end handspring -
It will even get you on s2ki.com with a modem
High end HP Jorando (something like that)
Just depends on how much you want to spend and wheter you want to learn a PALM OS or good old windows

I'm another one for Compaq IPAQ. Got one for myself, and one for my wife. I had problems flashing the bios and blew it out where the unit wouldn't turn on, but Compaq's customer service is incredible. They sent me a box to ship the unit to them via overnight, and got it back a few days later. Everything was covered under warranty, and no out of pocket expense from me. I find that to be outstanding service! Other than that, I've had no problems with the IPAQ. It's simply incredible. I've also used a Palm Pilot, Casio Cassiopeia (screen display shorted out) and an HP palmtop in the past.
I prefer the ones with the built in CF Card slot - for videos, Music files and photos. THe iPaq's require a sleeve that makes it more bulky. My vote on the PocketPC's go to the new Toshiba, the Casio or the HP in that order.
