I think the pliots and the attandents should all be armed with stun guns. If the report is true that they used knives, stun guns could help out in this kind of situation.

Let's face it. Our airport security is a joke, and now a tragic one. Let's hope it will be fixed.

I'm 99% sure that pilots on large commercial airliners are 'packing.' That was something I heard on the Discovery Channel or someplace, as security for the plane.

They are either obliged to carry guns or they are highly encouraged to do so. I don't recall which...

Having flown into and out of airports across the country and internationally, I am always appalled at how little security there is at our airports. All because we passengers want to arrive a few minutes before the flight and hop right on? I think that will change.

As for stun guns with the pilots, I think that should be the last line of defense. It is our airport security that has failed to screen such perpetrators out. Problems with stun guns or any weaponry on-board is that it can always be used against the crew.

I may not like the sight of Uzi-toting Beret-wearing military security at the airports, but that may be in the future of public air travel.

..my personal favorite is when I go to the check in counter at the gate to get my boarding pass and they attendant asks me, "did your bags leave you at anytime, did anyone give you anything suspicious to carry..."

This is their idea of security?

I am supposed to be in Milan 12 days from now, flying through NewarK!

I can't imagine what the security screening for oversees flights will be like...

I think I'm going to postpone.

My feeling is that airlines need to start hiring fight attendants for their observational and hand-to hand combat skills (jujitsu, etc)instead of looks.

I mean hijacking a plane with only a knives and cardboard cutters?! That should never have been successful.

I haven't seen a flight attendant yet who could handle any disturbance on a flight by herself (angry/drunk travellers).

It definitely would be better to stop potential violent acts before it gets on the plane, but whatever scanner the airport can provide, someone will be able to defeat it eventually.
