Towing capacity is VERY different than payload. I doubt that mr2 has a 1000lb payload rating. Also, your water weight is waay off. a gallon of water is 8lbs +/-.
Using your calculations of 316, there is over 2500lbs of ice on those cars, pushing down. Most of those cars cant handle payload like that. Shocks, tires, panels, etc etc.

That happened in Geneva a year back (or was it two years back)? Anyway, the first car is an MGF. The owner said that after letting it thaw out, it ran just fine.
The ice was created by heavy winds, a very cold spell and water being swepped off the Leman Lake, right onto the banks and onto the cars. It all happened overnight and was just externally visible. So the interior of the vehicle was supposedly ok.
