Go to London, enroll in Cambridge or Imperial College, graduate in top of class. Apply for GP2 internship and work your way through to the pinnacle of auto racing, F1.

Thanks EBinVA and BKL! I particularly like the moving parts aspect of it. At least that's what I think so. How is demand and career outlook for mechanical engineers. And since I see you're from Canada, what good schools do you recommend?

I knew this would be the right place to ask.

Thanks a lot people! You guys are really great and helpful!
If you like the moving components, then dynamics is the way to go. Either way, its all in Mechanical Engineering. Canada engineering wise I would say University of Waterloo and University of Toronto would be the leading ones in the country. I'm with Waterloo.

For sure go into M.E and go join the Formula SAE or other automotive clubs (there are plenty at each school). And go from there. Don't think too far ahead because as you work through the program you will find that its more involved than most people think. Engineering is very tough though, so be prepared for a lot of studying.

After graduation entry into a race development company is difficult since there are not that many out there. I have worked at a race company before though, and also know friends that are currently at another formula car development company, so it is not impossible. However, its not what I like, so I switched out to construction. Theres a lot of possibilities with M.E, you can do a lot of differnet jobs, thats what I really like about it.

Good luck!

If you have to study in high school to get good grades, you should probably just go to business school

That's the truth. A lot of people are under the assumption universities are just handing out degrees. The amount of people that dropped out of my ME classes the first 3 semester at Clemson is pretty ridiculous. You have to put in the time outside of the classroom to learn the material.

I graduated in chemical engineering and the first day signing up for classes the dean of engineering came in and told us to look around. Half of you won't be in here the next semester. And this will continue semester after semester. It was true, they dropped like flies.

My college roomates sister works for Hendrick. Her fiancee works in the motor shop. We talk a lot, he has a automotive engineering degree I think. Basically any engineering degree will work, but the top three should be automotive, mechanical, chemical in that order.
