that's the Eddie Aikau contest that hasn't run in 5 years because the waves were never big enough. Needs to be 25+ for the contest to run. My friends drove out there at 200am to get parking and spots to watch it.

streaming at work ftw!

The videos of all the heats are pretty good. Check out the heat 8 video and keep in mind that at least one of the competitors was in his 60's and I saw one of his rides and it was pretty good. And this event does not allow you to get a jet ski pull out into the big surf, you paddle yourself out through the big surf to catch a wave. A 62 year old man doing it is quite a feat.

I have bitched in a couple threads about having a shoulder surgery and this was the beach that I shredded it at. Tried (like a dumbsh*t) to body surf about a 12ft wave when the caution flags were out and got obliterated. You can not imagine the power behind that much water until you experience it. Its like getting hit by a speeding train that has a pillow attached to the front.

Still my favorite beach on the island though. Gotta get there early because it has a big beach but a parking lot for about 30 cars. Very scenic, tucked away and relaxing with big surf lots of days.
