Default If you have a DUI.....

Is it enough reason to not get hired by a company?

Assuming blue collar and white collar jobs are hiring the same.

Depends on the company.

Mine requires getting a clearance from the Gov't. A DUI would be unfavorable to a review for a security clearance. So would a poor credit rating (indebtedess, bankruptcy, etc).

Let's say it's a high tech corporation that does NOT involve a company car or anything that would involve liabilty concerning vehicles?

no reason to deny a job. Never heard of such a thing. AFAIK, they have no right to even ask for hat kind of data on you, so if they want your driving record for a non-driving position, feel free to tell them to look elsewhere to satisfy their hiring deficit.

I didn't know that companies were able to do checks like that?

haven't you all had to disclose criminal record on applications? I thought that qualified. Maybe not. But, unless you are neck and neck with another candidate, with no other way to distinguish which to pick, I would think you'd be alright.

In most cases, no, especially if you're talking about high tech.

Speaking from experience, it can. DUI is a criminal offense. The only way to get that taken off your record is through a program like ARD. Have you gone to court?

I do not hire people that have been convicted of any criminal offense. A person's record, criminal, driving and credit is used by many companies as a glimpse to their personality and level of maturity and responsibility.

Of course there are exceptions to this rules but personally I do not hire people with a criminal history. In fact I screen them against online public records before I even call them in for an interview.

In the past I had a bad experience with an employee who had a criminal past and ended up stalking a few women in my office.

Yea I have. I'm taking the courses required by the court as well as the mandatory weekend work programs.

Can the company see that on my record?
