I'm Pissed
MAN!!
I just got a letter from my bank that my account had been overdrawn and I had no idea why until I looked on my account online. My lawyer's office "accidentally" charged me TWICE for this month's payment so instead of taking out the regular amount, it took out twice as much and put my account into a negative amount!!! The reason I"m so angry is b/c they did that, I have been charged an overdraft fee for 2 purchases since then and my account is now negative. I called the bank last night and they told me they couldnt credit my account until Tues b/c Mon they'll be closed (Presidents Day). And b/c my account is negative, I have no access to ANY OF MY MONEY until this is resolved on TUESDAY. I cant' use my card, pull out any cash...i'm screwed b/c someone at the lawyer's office made a careless mistake...
Anyways, my question is: Is there anything I could receive in return for this inconvieniece? Or is it just to the extent of "you guys screwed up" and a slap on the wrist? They totally screwed me over and even though it wasnt on purpose, I'm still pissed. Any suggestions or ideas I would be grateful for...thanks

I guess you couldn't exact hire them to sue themselves, eh?
On a more serious note, couldn't what they did be considered fraud and/or theft? First approach it with the lawyers office as a customer satisfaction issue - if they're good guys, hopefully they'll work something out with you, like advance you the money or something. If they don't make it right, raise a huge stink about how they screw over their own customers. Other clients of theirs might be interested in their incompetence. If that doesn't work, threaten to contact local or state law enforcement. Hell, if it's enough money even the FBI might be interested.

I have had this happen before, not a lawyers office though, and I approached the company and without much hassle had them pay the whole of my bank charges incurred due to the overdrawn amount ....... I would have thought that the lawyers would be pretty aware that you could sue them and would be willing to settle this with you simply ..... good luck
