So since you've got an indoor pool, does that mean you're going swimming with your fishies? ahhaha...


In all seriousness, my parents had a large outdoor pond years ago...it had a couple deep pools for the koi, but apparently the shallows were just not deep enough. We ended up finding koi bones and carcasses around the pond because of raccoons. =(

It is now a large rain catching device and not much else.

 

None that lived to see another day

J/K I do have some visitors but have fishing line all over the place, It did take out one unfortunate owl (sad really) it got all tangled up and drowned.

and that water is 47 deg,.. can you say shrinkage! (only went in one time, with out the koi) I cant imagine accidenally stepping on one of those catfish,.. instant accupuncture! (sp?)

I've had to venture in to the ponds as well to do some rock and pump adjustment and the fish seem to enjoy the company When they're accustomed to people the come right up to you in the water and basically let you pet them!

The shrinkage is a good thing, turtle-style protection from the bitting fish. Ouch.

 

Are you selling the Koi, or doing all of this for a hobby? I've heard there's really good money in selling large Koi's to big companies.

Koi are just a hobby, its neat to pick a young one and watch it grow and change over the years. Some times you get a good one, and some times they turn unfortunate. I had a beautiful Inazuma Kohaku (white with a continuous red marking from the head to the tail) that lost all it red color turning to a pure white fish (basically worthless).

I did have an tragic event happen last night. I had my three year old 20" Ochiba jump out of the pool before I was able to get the bird netting on $300 down the tube and a beautiful fish too...
