Default Interview at American Express Financial Advisor

Ameriprise Financial Advisor(Formerly American Express Financial Advisor)

I quit my job about 1 week ago b/c unfortunately, there is nowhere for me to advance in my current company.
I have an interview tomorrow at 11am in Irvine office, CA and am wondering
if anyone here works for them or for any other Ameriprise office in the nation.
I also wonder what kind of questions will be asked and how long it will last
in finance related field. There are about 10 applicants and im the one of them.

Any interview tips when it comes to some random questions or any examples
(question/answer combo)that made you stand out?

I need your help, please.

i can't help you in that field, but a smart interviewer will no doubt ask about how you contributed to your previous positions. since nobody has a crystal ball showing how well you will do once you get the job, it's up to you to demonstrate, with clear examples, that you can contribute to this job.

i just read an article on business week on Ameripirse, you may want to read that article first.

Make sure you don't have to pay anything to start working! And don't settle for any "training" pay.

My friend got suckered into interviewing for a job like that at amex.

To be an FA you need to sell yourself before you sell the investment products. Interviewers are looking for someone that can carry on a conversation and can sell. The bottom line is, at the end of the day it's the numbers that count.

If you can't sell your clients one thing, make sure you can veer them in the direction of something else.

Emphasize that you're customer-oriented. After all, you're building relationships.

More than likely you'll be asked how you got out of a "sticky situation" at your previous job. Don't beat around the bush. State what the problem was, how you remedied it and how much of a better person it made you. That's it.

Do you also have your licenses? That helps too. Good luck.

I've heard a lot about being Amex financial advisor.

My advice is don't waste your time. that's just me, though.

I went to one of thier interviews a few years back. They give you a computer test (takes about 30 mins) and then they will interview you. I "failed" the computer test because I said I am not willing to work for commission only. That was one of the last 2 or 3 questions. I know thats the question that ultimately made the process end because I asked.
I wish the woman had talked to me before just putting me in a room because that was the main question I had. And I would not have wasted a morning and especially that 30 mins taking thier quiz.

As for the Job, I don't know if I wanted it anyway. Google the postion and the company (not just AMEX but whatever they are called). There is a website dedicated to hating thier business practice. That says alot about their company. Its fine for Microsoft who has sold almost billions of products to have complaining customers, but they do not have as many customers as MS and they deal more hands on with customers (actually, thats one of the complaints, that they don't deal hands on). Its a forum and there are many members (I was shocked how many). I thought it was just a few pissed off people but it turned out to be alot more than that.

Just give that site a look over if you can find it, just to see something about the company. Sorry I can't give you more info, and good luck to you in finding somehting you will be happy at, which is most important.
