Default Isn't there more important things happening in the World ( a little long)

I have a customer that is sueing me and my company (Allstate Insurance) because he said that we did not take care of him. The law suite does not bother me, it is that Barbara Walters is doing a segment on this issue. Here is the story

The customer got rear ended by another person that had AAA as their insurance company. He said that he needed $150 a day for a rental car, but only had $30 a day coverage. He said that he would make AAA pay for it, since it was their insured's fault. He got his car back (from Lexus of Beverly Hills a dealer) and the car was stalling and not running right. Turns out some how his steering columm was damaged in the accident and the dealer did not fix it. AAA said that they were not going to pay for another rental car, so he decided to go through Allstate. Our claims department told him that we would only cover $900.00 of the rental car expenses and he agreed because he knew he only had $30 a day coverage for 30 days. Well this has been going on since June and he was paying $150 a day for a rental car and said he had to lease another car because it was cheaper then paying for a rental car. Now he is sueing my agency and Allstate for pain (not physical pain, mental stress because he had to pay $150.00 a day for a rental car) and suffering. He says that the only thing that will satisfy him is a Year vacation in Tahiti. Now here is the part that got me upset, he said that he is good friends with Barbara Walters and she is going to do a segment on his situation.

If this person wants to sue everyone that is envolved that's fine, this is America and it is a free country. But if Barbara Walters is going to do a story on this because she is friends with this person, that is upsetting. With everything going on in the world today, she would use her time to address this matter. He is basically mad because he wanted to spend $150 a day on a rental car, but only paid us for $30 a day coverage. He has no injuries at all and no one suffered any injuries in this accident. If she does do this story I am no longer going to have the same respect for her as I did before. This story will only benefit one person and you know who that is. I am e-mailing her and sending her a letter about this, let's see what she has to say.

I doubt she'd do a story on this. The facts are in your corner. If your customer only paid for $30/day coverage, why do you have to pay more for the rental car. The rest should come out of their pockets.

Sounds like someone is blowing smoke. No way would there be a need for any kind of story on this.

It's the old "I'm friends with" scam. Anyone who truly is friends with a high-power journalist would know that this story wouldn't generate nearly enough sympathy to be of any interest. They would also know that BW only has some influence on what she covers. She doesn't decide on her own. Don't worry about this one. You may want to write the letter though, in case the person really does know her and really shouldn't be dropping her name. Doubt that he does, though...

Kuni-

I agree with the others -- this is a scam. Give Barbara Walters all the info, including his address. I'm sure she won't appreciate someone misrepresenting her like that. Maybe he'll hear from her attorney.
