It's that time again
The post office raised the stamp prices, so people started emailing more. Then they raised them again and people emailed more. So they raised them again and people started paying online. Now they're raising the prices again.
You'd think that at some point the post office would lower the price in order to get people to use the mail more.
Kind of like raising the gas prices. Gas prices went up, so people started carpooling, taking public transportation and looking for ways to 'go green'. Now that we've cut back so much and oil prices are falling ($38/barrel as of 2/10), the oil companies are trying to raise prices. What will we do, cut back again or continue cutting back like we have been when the prices went way up.
The post office and oil companies are both shooting themselves in the foot.

You guys got it all wrong. Congress and their Univeral Service Agreement dictate how to run the post office. It's a monopoly that is forced to run as a government agency and when it does make a profit the government takes it all away anyway.
2/3 of their stores don't make money? Congress says they can't close any. Even in town where they may have half a million in operating costs but only do about 15k a month is sales.
Congress required the post office to fund their own retirement system by 2016 making USPS pour billions and billions a year into an account. No other government agency or department is required to do so. Why?
42 cents to send a piece of mail from Boston to Alaska or Hawaii? Who else uses that pricing philosphy? USPS wanted to go to a dleivery by mileage or zone system like the other delivery companies but congress won't let them.
Other companies can make changes at will to be profitable but congress won't let USPS go to 5 day delivery. I know a lot of bleeding hearts are going to complain that they have 4 less days a month to pay bills but tough. You may actually have to plan for once in your lives. It's just as stupid as the delay to digital broadcasting since 2% of our population won't be ready.
If they aren't going to be allowed to run as a business, whether you mail letters anymore or not, we the people will be forced to support them with tax money. It's coming.
