Warren Zevon wrote and performed "Werewolves of London"; John Ritter starred in "Three's Company".

Recent deaths also include Thomas Bonner (former president of Wayne State University), Anna Lindh (Foreign Minister of Sweden), Bernice Jones (philanthropist, received the Presidential Citizen Medal in 1996), Frank G. Mautte (former captain of the Fordham Rams, played with Vince Lombardi), and Terone "T-bone" Hammon (bass player for Jewel). Along with Johnny, John, and Warren that makes at least eight famous people who've died recently (whatever "famous" and "recently" mean). Deaths don't come in threes.

Magician, I beg to differ. But this is a whole new subject. Call it superstition or what, this 3 thing seems to happen anyhow. Cash and Ritter, great guys, may they rest in peace. Life is short, live eveyday like its your last.

His last album, The Man Comes Around, has been one of my favourites of the last year.

You can tell from listening to it that he knew he did not have long to go .....

Isn't it true that some people do record their best music when they know they don't have long left to live, Freddie Mercury being a good example.

This morning on KPCC (a local NPR station) they had the science editor for the LA Times with her weekly segment; this time she was talking about how our perception alters our reality. She referred to Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle (without naming it) and suggested that it explains why perception alters reality; her argument was stupid because HUP applies at microscopic, not macroscopic, levels, and it applies only to questions of position and velocity. Nevertheless, her point is correct: our perception shapes our view of reality.

That deaths of famous people seem to come in threes is caused by people expecting that deaths of famous people come in threes and therefore look for examples that bolster that expectation: it "seems" to happen because you look for it to happen. The rub is that neither the length of time in which deaths can be classified as "coming together" nor the threshold for "famous" is well-defined. As soon as you say that the deaths have to be within, say, ten days of each other and the people have to be actors or musicians or athletes or whatever, the statistics don't support the "deaths come in threes" conclusion. This time it was two musicians and an actor and the length of time was six days: why couldn't you add a couple of days and include Charles Bronson, bringing the total to four? Or shorten the time and make it two (Bronson and Zevon) and two (Cash and Ritter)?

In any case, may God bless Johnny, John, Warren, Charles, Thomas, Anna, Bernice, Frank, Terone, and all of the other famous and not-so-famous people who have recently died, and their families as well.

poor guy.
No he wasn't. He died of a 'dissected aorta' apparently brought on by a pre-existing heart condition that he didn't know he had.

Dropped dead on the set of "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" according to NBC News tonight.

I've never listened to much Johnny Cash, but the fact that he did a cover of a Nine Inch Nails song (and a great one, at that) is just about the coolest thing I've ever heard. I still haven't seen the video yet .

RIP gentlemen.

That's why I liked the earlier works better. I listened to him and watched the Johnny Cash Show as a child and it was painful to listen to him knowing the end was near.
