Does anyone else here get junk faxes? They're the equivalent of spam, except they come through your fax machine. I leave my home fax machine on automatic mode for business purposes, and have been getting junk faxes for a couple of years now. They waste ink and paper, but I've always considered them a minor nuisance...up until last night. Last night, at 3:30 AM, the phone rang a handful of times and then a junk fax came through. That completely ruined my sleep and royally pissed me off.

Any helpful techniques on combatting these? My fax machine needs to be in automatic mode, so putting it in manual mode isn't possible. Can I report these shitheads to anyone? I don't think junk faxes are covered under the telemarketing "no call" list, so no help there.

I've thought about maybe doing something petty, like putting up personals ads with the advertiser's phone numbers (so that they get their time wasted with irrelevant calls), but decided against it because that would just screw over whoever replies to the ad. Any good ideas for turning the tables on them? Realistic stuff only please...if I knew where these people lived, I'd have already bashed their heads in with a baseball bat...at 3:30 AM, just to make it right.

 

We get them at my work and yes it is annoying, but I have not come up with a solution. In fact my boss knew a guy who sends those junk faxes for a living, kinda like telemarketing only by fax. Scumbags, sorry but I could not make a living by annoying other people.

I think they are worse than spam. I wish I could find the genius who thought of advertising this way and line him and the telemarketers and the spam mailers and popup people and shoot them with a submaching gun.

 

My faxes at work go directly to Outlook on my computer. I look at them like any other email. I think the faxes are converted to .jpg files and stored as a picture. This works very well. I think the name of the program that does this is

 

if, somehow, you can find out their fax number, you can send them an endless fax bomb. they're easy to build too:

take about 7 pages of documents (make sure it has a lot of dark features so as to use up the offending fax's ink). tape all their ends together to make one long page 8.5 x 77" long, and fax them to said fax machine. when the top of the first page peeks out, carefully tape the opposite end to it to make a continuous loop. and voila! an endless fax bomb.

Thanks for the feedback guys...getting that fax at 3:30 AM was the last straw for my patience, and I just wanted to see who else was suffering from this scourge. At the least, I guess there's some comfort in knowing that others get them, too.
