Default Just got a labrador puppy!! Need tips!

I just got a gold lab and it just took a leak on my floor!

How do I start off potty training this rascal?

And any puppy tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ciao,

Bryan

How old is it?

My lab took about 2 months to get fully trained - I used the crate method. You get a crate/box and put him in there, the puppy are naturally clean and will try to hold it as much as possible.

Don't be disappointed if they don't control it, it's just something they have to learn. Labs will have the puppy mentality for about 2 years, so be prepared for that!

I have a white lab named "Tallica" this dog rocks during the summertime i can not keep her out of the pool.

I also did what Migster did the crate method works great. Also, remeber labs need tons of attention!

Don't encourage him to jump up on the furniture. He'll be a BIG dog someday!

And watch out for those puppy teeth. Razor sharp.

Get a good book on how to train a puppy properly. Enjoy the little rascal.

I agree with Dario, get a book or video, it's the best money you will ever spend. I have a 3yr old Chocolate Lab. Labs are extremely smart canines, they really aim to please. Positive reinforcement is necessary to get them house broken. Plan on spending a lot of time with them when they are young. As soon as the dog has had all it's booster shots take them out often let them interact with other people and dogs. Good Luck and enjoy it's a long and rewarding relationship.
