It was something of a disappointment. But then, you can't really compare this with the original. I've always thought the original was very horrifying without the graphical horror usually reserved by freddie or hellraiser.

Lesson: wait for the DVD, you're not missing out if you don't go to the theaters.

It was fairly grewsome, but worth seeing if just for Sir Anthony's performance. I never thought I might have a reason to have nightmares about pigs until now. Another good, but less well-known movie involving Dr. Lecter (but not featuring Hopkins), was a movie called "Manhunter", starring William Peterson. It's the story of the pursuit of another serial killer by the FBI, and should be available on video, if not DVD. For a good source of information on this or any other movie ever made, go to http://www.imdb.com.

If you want to see a disturbing film, rent Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

Be warned though -- it is truly disturbing and definitely NOT for children even under adult supervision! I rented it once after reading a favorable review about it in a movie magazine and, believe me, one viewing was enough.

You'll never forget it!

If you want to check out the "kid-a-bility" of a movie, go to http://www.kids-in-mind.com/ - gives very descriptive details on sex/nudity, violence and profanity - even counts the "f" words!

I saw Hannibal last night. It sucked!

Very weak story, slow and boring. During the first half of the film they try to make up for the weak plot by showing a lot of scenery from Florence, Italy. During the second half they try to make up for the weak plot with lots of unnecessary gore (and not the ex-VP either).

Did have some scenes filmed at the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina. As you can see, that place is really beautiful:

If you've never visited Biltmore and you're attending S2K Days in April, you really need to plan a side trip to see the estate. It is spectacular! Here's the link for more info:

I'd say a good half of the "faces of death" stuff was fake... but I digress. I had a free screening of "Hannibal" yesterday and left away dissapointed, so the alot of the other people I talked to.

Story is very messy, characters contrive, gratuitous violence that was there to shock more than move the plot, an overall very forgettable movie.

I watched "Silence of the Lambs" the day before and that is such an amazingly tight and engaging movie, it's was a disgrace for "Hannibal" to be made.... the only saving grace being Hopkins.

"Manhunter's" very similar to "Silence of the Lambs", good flick... especially the "Inna Godda Divida" scene.

Save your hard earned money folks!
