Default Just took a current IQ test on campus today..

Well it has been a couple years since my last IQ test and wanted to see if all the aluminum has rotted away my cells. I scored 117 which wasn't too bad I guess. How have some of you done?

IQ tests are mainly useful for testing your knowledge of IQ tests. A large number of the questions are obvious and easy once you know how they are solved, but most people only see that kind of problem once or twice in their lives.

Supposedly, 100 is average, and the farther from 100 your score is, the rarer that score. It actually has only a passing relevance to intelligence. Most people who score anywhere near 100 can greatly increase their score if someone shows them how to solve some of the more esoteric problems, like the color and shape sequences and number patterns. Since very few people ever get to see which problems they got right and which they got wrong, one can't easily learn from the test, hence the majority don't do much better on the second or third try, which is why IQ tests are supposedly accurate. IMHO, the only people who care about IQ test scores are people who have no other reason to think they are smart.

The argument is that the IQ test at least helps determine your ability to problem solve.

I don't know the answer but I'm going to figure out the pattern etc..

I got a 150 my first test when I was 12, at 12 I didn't have a clue what an IQ test was so it wasn't a test of my knowledge of taking IQ tests. Since then I've taken it 2 times and have scored a little lower. IQ test are age weighted this might be a contributing factor or I might have lost a few brain cells, who knows.

Either way it's just one of many measurements we could use to determine intelligence without evaluating someones knowledge.

156, when my friend pushed me to take the Mensa exam. He was pissed that I got the same score he did. He used to play for the Hong Kong HS chess club, and could play five games in his head (but against real opponents) without looking at any of the boards. He was also into 3D chess.
As someone stated, it's more how you use it that matters, and E.Q. counts as much as I.Q. in the real world.

Until some device is invented to measure the amount of intelligence directly from the brains (if that's possible at all, for the brain is the most complex of any system of body on earth), IQ tests vary so much that they neglect any real measurement. People see things in various patterns.
