Keanu Reeves
I have a friend who sat next to him on a long plane ride. He didn't know who Keanu was at the time (He's 60 years old) but said that Keanu was really nice and the whole time talked about his band and that he was really excited about his music.

Buddhism is NOT a religion.

Buddhism is a religion and philosophy encompassing a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices, largely based on teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as the Buddha (Pāli/Sanskrit "the awakened one").
Various sources put the number of Buddhists in the world at between 230 million and 500 million, making it the world's fourth-largest religion.

ALL references define it as a religion, but we all should just listen to you - the almighty knowledgeable white man* of an Asian religion.
I can see that you were a super genius in school and from the day of your birth. Idiot!* Edit: Middle Eastern man.
Muslim and Islam aren't religions either, just...
But one thing we can all agree to, Buddhists are much more peaceful than Muslims and Islams.

Sorry to go off-topic like that, but the nerve of this Muslim/Islam saying another religion isn't a religion really pissed me off, even though I'm a Catholic (used to be anyway).
Steponme,
I am neither a white man nor a middle eastern man. I am from a country where 65% are Buddhists. I went to grad school for years in US.
So I was a Buddhist by birth and I got into serious meditation (Vipassana) about 3.5 years ago.
A lot of people compare Buddhism with other organized religions and it is indeed apples vs. oranges.
In Buddhism,
There is no all mighty entity.
Buddhists do not pray to anyone.
There are no rituals in real Buddhism.
That is the distinction I wanted to made.
I am trying to be a real Buddhist and trust me it is hard. It involves taming your mind and that is really difficult.
You were correct about one thing; we are peaceful. Buddhism does not care about how many followers there are and does not try to convert anyone who isn’t willingly seeking Buddhist teaching. Also Buddhist meditation techniques can be practiced even if one belongs to some other religion.
You got to excuse me, I don’t have the time to read the links you send because this "idiot" with a PhD in mathematics is busy with a research paper.
May you have a peaceful day, sir.
Gaja.

I like this catholic thinks he knows what Buddhism is because he's Asian, and can read 'references'. News Flash: Buddhists don't consider it a religion, they'd consider it a spirituality, it's irrelevant what wikipedia uses to describe it.
Go make another thread about why you suck at driving so much
How did this get derailed into a Buddhist thread again?
Keanu's a terrible actor, but every interview etc. I've seen him in he definitely seems like a stand up human being

I grew up as a Buddhist, my family and relatives go to the temple often. And we pray with the monks for blessing and a healthy life.
we have ceremony at the temple when its new year , and we pray and celebrate for a happy year.
When someone is getting married, monks will be there and we all pray to god for giving them a blessing and long rich marriage.
when someone pass away, we pray and have a ceremony to help send that person to heaven.
