how about if you do your own oil changes?? how can you prove that? the oil receipts?? i guess you have to take a picture or use a camcorder to record your oil change.

Not that I would buy any current Toyota product, but that attitude with their customers would make me think twice about it if all of their cars weren't so damn boring. They blame it on this lady not getting her oil changed frequently enough even though she has receipts from Jiffy Lube showing she had it regularly changed? Good job, Toyota.

That lady deserves what she's getting, oil changes at 4000-6000k miles...that is just plain stupid. I change my oil at 4000km not miles and shes doing 6000 MILES. STUPID,STUPID,STUPID. I cant speak for the V6 motor but I can speak for the 5SFE motor..those motors are bulletproof, they have those motors in the mr2 NA, camry and celica...there are dozens of ppl with 150k+ miles on there mr2's with that motor, so I dont see any problem with that motor.

Since I do my own oil changes, I would be kind of out of luck in proving I did them. Guess the next best thing to do would be to keep the receipts for the oil and filters.

I think you are blaming the wrong party. In an engine without hotspot problems motor oil should be good for over 7K miles. This is a Toyota problem or they would not be dealing with so many people and doing fixes.

Wake up! All companies make mistakes, including Japanese auto manufacturers.. I have a transmission to prove it.

I have no knowledge of the situation, but there is a class-action lawsuit against Toyota for this, so it's not an isolated incident, nor caused by failure to change the oil. (Most makers now recommend changes at 7500 unless in very dusty area or with hard driving, so 6000 should be fine, althought I have no idea what Toyota recommends).

Who's the stupid one - someone who follows the mfr's instructions for care of their vehicle, or someone who blows money on excess oil changes?
