Gung Hay Fat Choy! Time to eat, get money (red envelopes), and not clean anything, which includes the house and your hair... both of which I cannot abide by.

Any of you Chinese/Asians superstitious?

Gung Hay Fat Choy to everyone else also.

I wouldn't say it is superstition, but besides not washing the hair and no cleaning (you were supposed to clean the house the week before the New Years), the Chinese tradition is that you are not supposed to use anything sharp today (the new years day) -- including knive, scissors, nail clippers, etc. Nothing unpleasant is allowed, always smile and be agreeable.

The Chinese New Year day is on January 22nd, 2004. Because this is a new moon day, it is the first day of the first Chinese lunar month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar system. The new moon time is at 05:05 on 22-Jan-04 in China time zone. However, the new moon time is at 13:05 of 21-Jan-04 in the US Pacific Standard Time and also at 10:05 of 21-Jan-04 in the US Eastern Standard Time, so the Chinese New Year day is on January 21st, 2004 for USA time zones.

yeah i think my family is sort of? like my dad is within the buddist religion and my mums in the catholic religion...makes me pretty messed up. um with the superstition im not sure but my dad lights these insence stuff all the time and 'prays', and we have a mirror on the front of our door because theres a tree in front of it, and its supposed to reflect the bad spirits? i think thats feng shui or something. haha im not too sure at all, but i think that makes my home superstitious. also, if you have your bedroom set out where your feet end of the bed is facing the door, apparently its really bad because thats the way dead people get carried out the coffin or something?, so if thats the case in your bedroom, re-arrange, if your superstitious

yeah...we used to have a mirror on our door too...dont want em bad spirits coming through ur entrances ....there is another one...it is if ur toilet door is exactly facing the owner of the houses master room door...apparantly...that isnt good either...coz it brings hard times and bad health to the owners....u no those stone cut out things that parents would use to sharpen their butcher knives....yeah...dad puts it on our window sill...it seems that becoz our neighbours window is exactly facing ours...it seems that stone blocks off their bad energy from seeping into our lives....and mum wont by houses near a church, graveyard...or in a corner....or a house facing backwards facing someone elses house...where ur luck goes to them......it is very very confusing.
