From a LG VX-8100 to a Moto E815?
Hey guys, I just currently bought the vx-8100 but I'm starting to get disappointed with it cause Verizon "crippled" the mp3 feature and the 512mb memory claimed to have in reality is a lot less then that. Verizon also crippled the Bluetooth feature and limited it only to work with headsets and cars. The data feature to echange files, pics, ect, was taken out.
So I've been thinking about switching to the Motorola E815. I know the V710 sucked ass but I've heard that this is a major improvement over the V710. Also the E815 is able to play mp3's through the Bluetooth headset which is a definite plus. Anyone here has either phones and has any input on this? I looked at the Howardforums but I want to get your guys opinions.
I got 13 days left to decide if I want exchange it for the Moto. Thanks.

I really like my e185, but be prepared to do some simple hacking to it to enable functionality.
As of now, mine is onyl mildly hacked. I enabled dial up networking, changed the Verizon Wireless banner and enabled OBEX file transfers.
As far as phone functionality, the 815 rocks. AMAZING RF (better than any LG out there), very clear, aesthetics are good, the voice dialing/commands are very nice, speakerphone is good. Menus aren't bad, there are some minor issues I have with them, but nothing to worry about.
The camera is very good and the flash is handy, not only for photos but also as a flashlight.
Now, I haven't used an 8100, but after having the 815 for a few days, I love it.

No idea on the mp3 player, it's one of the features I never really intend on using...
I think it is fully functional but I'm not sure. MP3 ringtones are plug n play out of the box though. To to computer --> phone transfers of MP3's though, you'll need to hack OBEX.
As for bugs, the one MAJOR one that concerns me is the alarm clock. It will not sound an alarm if there is a message alert pending (txt message through the night, voicemail, missed call). You have to dismiss the message before the alarm will go off.
I have a feeling Moto will fix this in an updated firmware there. Way too much of a bug to just ignore...
The camera and screen haven't messed up on me at all. I really like some of the cool camera features, like the self-portrait mode and unlimited length video with the expansion memory card. The screen seems to work great, no glitches or graphical problems that I've noticed. The outside screen is cool too, it will display your wallpaper under the regular info.
Bluetooth seems to work fine in my limited experience. Phone --> headset was pathetically simple the time I tried it with a borrowed headset. Phone --> computer seems to work just fine, but I need a BT dongle to mess with it more myself. The only thing that is missing is phone --> phone contact but hopefully someone will manage to hack this soon. I'd have to imagine it will eventually be hacked...
All in all, coming from a vx6000, I'm thrilled with the phone. There are some people having echo issues with it that you may want to look into, but it isn't a problem on a lot of the phones. Probably something you could exchange the phone for if you have trouble.
