Re: Bonsaicats

I'm not going to go into the whole freedom of speech aspect, I understand these are moderate forums and the moderators are here to police what they do and do not think is appropriate for each area of discussion.

That said, I too unfortunately lost alot of respect for some of the people on this board. Not for stating their distaste or closing threads, but for the personal attacks they feel they need to make to promote themselves as "better" people. I love it when people get up on their high horse and preach.

Ah, how blissful it would be if we all lived in a PC world...

(Oh BTW, I do have two cats, and no they aren't abused in anyway. )

Actually Loki, if I remember correctly, a little warning as to the nature of your post I think would have been sufficent. I have a couple cats, love'em when I cliked on the site you posted I got the impression I didn't want to see it. So I closed it. I didn't pass any judgement just thought that a little warning might have saved a few people from having to see that.
It's not nessacarly PC, but maybe just a little curtesy to the others.

Loki, I'm sorry if I sounded harsh (and I know it was me you were referring to), but I've dealt with this about 3 times too many on this site already.

My feeling has always been that if I think it's going to offend more than a few people, I don't post it. I guess I got a little spoiled because in the beginning, it appeared that many people took that tack as well and we rarely had anyone rubbed the wrong way.

All I ask is that people think before they post. If you (not just you, Loki, anyone) know you are going to deeply upset and offend people, just don't post it!

The moral of the story is..

It isn't ok to make fun of the cute animals. Banzai Lab Rats or Possums are ok. Just not cats, seals, dogs, etc.

Remember... If it is a "cute" animal you can't make fun of it. But the less cute ones are fair game.

No, Krazik, you're missing the point. Pictures of live animals with explicit instructions on how to inflict pain and torture are not well tolerated by most sane people. I'm sure there are plenty of websites available for those needing to satisfy that curiosity. I've found a few things objectionable but realizing that I may be hypersensitive in some areas more so than others, I didn't register a complaint. That was highly inflammatory and way over the line.

Cthree has done an excellent job in trying to maintain a site that doesn't errupt into degrading flame wars by instilling some simple rules. It's not that difficult to determine if something is capable of offending many. Respect is not a bad thing.

No Pueo, you are missing the point.

The site is a joke. It isn't real. I understand that some can't get past that, so I don't need to argue about it.

I am an avid animal lover, I have owned many cats and dogs over the years, some came from previously abusive owners. I even experienced some asshole dump a pillow case full of ~2wk old puppies into a local river. My friend got his license plate and ultimately got him caught for it, I retrieve all 7 puppies from the river alive. They were then taken care of by a family friend and all went on to good loving homes. If I ever saw someone truely abusing an animal again, I would be appalled and wouldn't blink at getting the authorities involved.

But I am still able I found the site to be mildly humorus and yes some what disturbing. But I am capable of seperating what is real and what is not. Apparently others aren't. I would love to find someone who 1) actually thought it was real and 2) actually tried to put and animal into a jar.

IMHO as always

I hate to see what would happen if you linked in Swift's A Modest Proposal It's a moderated sight though, so you have to respect the moderators' wishes.
