Default Long time no post!

Hello all!

It has been months/decades since I posted on this board. I had some issues at work and finally I quit about a week ago. I have a job offer in New York, the Long Island area...anyone from there? I would like to get some feedback as far as costs...the calculators on the internet are not that trustworthy...

Help me out!! Thanks guys!

Angel

Figure almost double what you pay in Topeka for just about everything.

Food being the exception, it's just a 1/3 more.

Depends on where exactly in Long Island. Its at LEAST double, with property taxes, triple....there are a handful of houses on Long Island that are under 800,500. (if you want to live close to NYC) If you live way out, its about half that.

Like steve said, everything is double. Hope you have a good driving record, cause NY insurance is a monster.

Welcome to the hood.

Kansas to New York, that's a HUGE change. For the record, Seattle was placed #1 on the list of most expensive city in the U.S. by Forbes a couple months ago. But it doesn't seem THAT outrageous. Yes, it's much more expensive than when I visited the Midwest. One thing is for sure, houses in the Midwest and TX are so cheap compared to here.

I might have to keep a KS address just for insurance reasons...my driving record is not the best (damn cops! ).

I don't think I could afford a house for over $ 500,000 there right now, reason why I am looking for a small apartment to get by. I would be working in Freeport, in Nassau county.

How much do you guys pay in rental insurance on an apartment or home?

There are apt complexs out in Nassau(prob not with a garage). Rent you can figure around $900 for a one bedroom(and it should be a nice size), and renter's insurance is cheap so that shouldn't be an issue, homeowners insurance is a different story.
