Look Down
As a couple of you said here... it puts things in perspective, I am sure that a lot of people really can't grasp the enormity of what has happened there.
I was thinking on the way to work this morning about this, and I for one, being so far away from what has happened, am sure that I don't understand fully what it must be like for those of you close to the whole thing.

Being such a landmark, it would be like going downtown and the CN Tower isn't there, or looking out the window and Mt. Fuji is missing!
When I see shots of NY now, I get this feeling like something has been artificialy erased, like croping out your parents in a family photo.
Freakin scarry is what it is.

I understand the rubble to be about 5 stories tall. This means that rescue workers, just by a misplaced step, can fall into the underground part of the towers, which was like a city unto itself, some 70-80 feet...
