Canon. I suggest the Rebel T1i. You can do HD video, and it's cheaper than the 50D. For the price its a great camera.

Just buy a nikon d40 or up with a 18-200mm VR lens ($600)... this should be a nasty setup!

Lexx,

Go to a camera shop. Hold all of the models, and see which feels right to you. You can't go wrong with Canon or Nikon, or even a Sony or other non-Canon/Nikon brands.

All of the brands have similar features (depending on who released the latest model), cameras in the same categories and price ranges, and similar lens selections.

And realize the body is the tip of the iceberg for DSLRs. You could end up 10x or more spent easily between lenses, accessories, memory, batteries, grip, and other gear.

I picked up one of these last week. It's nice. My first DSLR so I'm still learning, but I like it so far.

if none of those than the Canon T1i
