Default A lot of these new bands today try and be scary.

I have nothing against Disturbed or Slipknot, but whether they wear masks or yell cuss words, I've not heard any of them sing something as dark as this:

"It took so long to remember just what happened.
I was so young and vestal then,
You know it hurt me,
But I'm breathing so I guess I'm still alive,
Even if signs seem to tell me otherwise.
I've got my hands bound,
My head down, my eyes closed,
And my throat wide open."

That's the begining of a song titled "Prison Sex" from 1993.

Yea, Tool has some pretty disturbing lyrics in some songs.

i don't think they're trying to be scary....a lot of their masks are representations of their music and and self image...or so they'd like us to believe...i think they're music would be just as good without the whole get-ups but i think it adds market value to them you know...it's gimmicky....sorta like KISS.

anyways...all those bands rock....music has gotten to be a bit too pop rock right now and i need some good hardcore stuff to get me going.

i wouldn't say tool is disturbing as much as i would say they're dark...they're not offensive or startling...they're very thought provoking if you actually listen....tool rocks....one of the greatest bands all time

I think a lot of their songs are a bit more than dark, myself. I think they're great, though. I've got four of their CDs as well as Mer De Noms by A Perfect Circle. The songs from A Perfect Circle are a lot less dark than the Tool stuff, but with the same great sound. I don't think they're offensive, either. I find all the wanna-be rocker pop bands with the stupid teenie-bob lyrics offensive. It's like they want people to believe they're some suffering, distubed artists but you listen to half their lyrics and they're about the same kind of crap that Michael Jackson sings about.
