Lotus Elise is coming to the US???
It's not coming - it is already here. Sun America is the company I believe.
There are issues with this set-up, however, regarding the fit of the engine since it is larger and heavier than the Rover motor in the Elise.
The Elise is a great sports car from the factory - especially the 190S.

Yes the car is street legal. They did crash tests and everything.
Scot - it isn't the real thing (which is awesome) but that car is very fast. It only weighs like 1500lbs. Imagine the S2000 weighing even 700 less pounds - that would be awesome.

Hey-
Last time I looked the Lotus Elise was not approved for USA public highway use.
That doesn't stop some owners- I've seen them in the Chicago area with plates from another Lotus to confuse the police.
Nice car- I was just driving one earlier this evening. The unassisted ceramic brakes that were on this car were very nice- but from what I understand this option isn't available anymore and the owner will have to revert back to standard iron rotors and standard pads.
The Lotus Elise is sold at Lotus dealers in the USA as a track only car- it comes with the track package- electrical kill switch on the fender, tall, single seater rollbar/braced in to the passenger seating area, harnesses, etc. I think they sold alittle over 50 units in the US last year- for around $50K. In the case of the R engined Elise the last thing I would want to do is cut into one anyway for the R block- I can't imagine what that actually does to the chassis structure and handling.
FYI- Sun International was denied their Ford Escort Cosworth program after they had publicised it when the DOT found out they didn't have crash test data...
