Default Luxury Sedan Help

We test drove the BMW 530 and found it underpowered. We also test drove the 540 and loved it but the asking price is a bit too high. We're still looking at it but we're exploring other options. Can you guys name some comparable cars to the 530 that is in the same price range and luxury class but has more power? Except for the Audi 2.7T and going to a smaller car I really can't think of anything else.

Go and test-drive a Lexus GS400 or the new GS430. Mid 14 in the 1/4.

It'll be the same thing. I would definately pay the extra and buy a 540 over a GS430 and we'll find the 300 underpowered.

I really like the 540....not too much out there matches its combination of luxury and performance. If the price is a bit too high, what about looking for a year old one where you'd avoid the luxury tax and gas guzzler charge. (What a joke those two items are!!) Good luck in your hunt.

I think Mercedes E-class will do...
you want a luxury sedan, not a high performance sedan...
so, I think Mercedes E-class is the best pick...

We are really just looking at newer cars. As for MB the E430 is even more expensive than the 540 and the E320 is near 540 money and I can't see it being more powerful than the 530.

I guess we have to test drive the 530 again. My mom was quite disappointed in the bimmers actually. She expected more luxury from a car that cost that much.

A lot of Americans would resolve this by buying a Lincoln LS8 or (egads!) a front-wheel drive car. They probably don't care about reliability (or sportiness, in the case of the FWD).
