I bought a Magellan Roadmate 2000. The whole thing folds up and fits into the storage space between the seats. It works great and has a nice and bright screen that can be easily viewed with the top down.

I have the Mio C520. It's pretty decent for its price.

Consumer Reports tested a lot of these and generally found that Garmin gets you to your location the fastest and most efficiently. Magellan was just slightly behind, but Tom-Tom was way behind. Evidently, Tom-Tom has the edge in the rest of the world, but for North America, Garmin and Magellan are way ahead.

[QUOTE=Sr2oD3,Feb 14 2008, 08:43 AM] Hey,

I'm getting ready for a business trip and would like to not drive like a lost tourist. I'm looking at a few GPS devices and will be going to Best Buy after work. What are you guys/gals using?

I've been doing a bit of research and found a few possibilities. I don't want to spend a lot of cash, but I want something of good quality. Only features I want is speakable text, and touch screen.

here are a couple I've found.

Magellan - Maestro 3200

A lot of units do that now. I believe every one with text to speech.. pretty sure thats what it means. The tomtom XL-S I bought speaks road names, etc.

Tomtom are supposedly wonderful in Europe. But I agree almost all the reviews I've read had Garmin at the top, with Magellan a close second.

Do you have to take it off everytime when you park your car on the street? I mean if it's mounted there, it'll be so susceptible to being stolen by thieves right? The JVC DVD deck I bought fits perfectly in the radio so I can simply close the lid and hide it. I did think about getting a navi but I'm afraid it'll easily be targeted by thieves.

You can take it off the ball if you want.
