Martial Artists, sound off! ^_^
There have been threads about martial arts, there have been threads about martial arts movies, but there has been no threads about us martial artists
Well, this thread is to remedy that
List your arts (past and/or present) and, if you feel it appropriate to do so, your ranking/belt, and honestly, I would love to hear a small history about your martial arts experiences, as I'm sure many of us will.
Note: This is not a thread about gloating, or comparing arts, or bashing each other's arts. You can have 1 day's worth experience, or a whole lifetime.
Also, feel free to ask me any questions about any of my experiences. As you all know, I'm an open book ^_^
I'll start the ball rolling:
Past arts:
Iaido
Tae Kwon Do (red belt/black stripe, class 3 provincial referee during 1999, assistant instructor for children's class)
Hapkido
Gracie Ju Jitsu
Renbukai Karate (brown belt)
Current art:
Nakayama KoAikido under Rev. Sensei Douglas Skoyles.
Main focus is on Aiki, but we also cover Iai. I am currently a Shodan (1st level). I do have previous experience in Iaido, but I am starting as a beginner because of the mix between Aiki and Iai, and to become acclimatized to a new Sensei. I was previously taught Iai by Ishawa Sensei, who moved back to his home in Hokkaido, Japan, a few months ago, and I wanted to continue my Iai development, and Rev Sensei Skoyles has come with many referrals and recommendations. ^_^
