Mazda has announced plans to build a four-door
sports car that will be the evolution of the RX-7.

The company showed off a concept called the
RX-EVOLV at the 2000 North American
International Auto Show in Detroit, and the
production version will borrow styling and layout
cues from that exercise.

A design model at the 2001 show will be closer
to the production version of the car which is
more of a coupe with rear access panels (like
the Saturn SC coupe

I believe the engine is supposed to have around 166 lb-ft of torque.

I had only driven Turbo 3rd gen RX7. Rotary engine felt so different from anything I had driven before, that it was very strange. Being Turbo didn't help much neither. But I still thought it was very fast from low rpm. Its light weight must have helped alot as well.

It's great to see Mazda continuing the development of rotary engine. Everybody in Japan believed that rotary will end after Ford's buy out. This engine has some special meanings to Japanese people because it helped Hiroshima get back to its feet after the World War II ended. I'm glad to see it keep going, even though I do not want to buy any Mazda....

I'm not sure, but do Americans know that Mazda rotary is still the only Japanese car maker and engine that had won LuMans 24hrs?
