Michael Schumacher vs Tiger Woods
There was some discussion about preferential treatment towards Tiger and how he is almost always the focus no matter what the media (newspaper, tv, etc...) even if he is not in the lead (which seems to be pretty rare..
).
the only other person I could think of that recently dominated a series for a long time is Michael Schumacher.
F1 is more of an European thing than American so..... was he followed around even if not winning? were articles written with his picture even if he didn't win? Did he bring huge $ into the sport like Tiger?
Similar to golf, technology has changed significantly in his car vs a F1 cars and tracks 10-20 years earlier so it is impossible to compare prior champs to current champs....
Anyway..... by bringing in such a huge amount of interest into a sport does that person deserve all the attention?

Everyone knows that F1 is just glorified NASCAR, so no one cares. (I'm kidding x infinity, I love F1). I would say that Schumi brought nowhere near the interest to F1 that Tiger did to golf. I think there are even stats that show the number of people golfing is up since Tiger hit the scene. He's had an undeniable influence on the popularity of the game.

As for the title of this thread, I, for one, believe that Schumi would take Tiger in a Celebrity Death Match.
You have a point there. Despite Schumi's popularity, there has not been a significant increase in the number of people driving Formula One cars worldwide, much less in Europe.

that is unless he visit a Ferrari store.
Tiger is known worldwide, Michael is known everywhere but the US...a huge market. Tiger's ethinc backgroud helps as well with the Asians and Blacks. People can play golf pretty much all their lives but by 35 you are pretty much washed up as an F1 driver. It doesn't hurt that eveyone with modest financial means can play golf, but how much does it cost and how many places can you drive a car as fast as it can go around a closed track?
